Refurbishment & Mods
Classic hardware deserves to keep working, and sometimes that means more than simply replacing a capacitor.
NR-RetroWorks offers refurbishment, preventative maintenance, and carefully selected modifications for supported retro hardware. The goal is to preserve the character of the original system while improving reliability, usability, longevity, or capability where it makes sense.
Refurbishment
Refurbishment work may include cleaning, inspection, recapping, preventative maintenance, connector and contact cleaning, replacement of known wear items, and correction of minor known faults.
Normal age and use are expected. Dust, grime, oxidation, minor corrosion, cosmetic wear, and the occasional evidence that something lived in a garage for thirty years are not automatically a problem.
Hardware that is already known-good and functioning is preferred, but minor repairs and clearly identified component failures can often be handled as part of the service.
Mods & Upgrades
Supported modifications and upgrades can also be installed as part of the same service.
These may include video or audio upgrades, replacement components, reliability improvements, modern power or connectivity solutions, and other modifications developed or supported by NR-RetroWorks.
Modifications are selected with the original hardware in mind. The objective is to improve the system without unnecessarily compromising what makes the original machine worth preserving.
What This Service Is Not
NR-RetroWorks is not a general electronics repair service.
I can handle minor repairs, known faults, and straightforward component replacement, but I do not accept hardware for extensive diagnosis, intermittent mystery faults, or open-ended troubleshooting where the underlying problem is unknown.
If a significant pre-existing fault is discovered during refurbishment, work may be paused so we can discuss the issue before additional time or expense is incurred.
Condition of Hardware
Most normally aged hardware is perfectly acceptable.
However, NR-RetroWorks may decline hardware that is unsafe, impractical, disproportionately time-consuming to service, severely contaminated, actively infested, heavily liquid-damaged, or extensively physically damaged.
If you are unsure whether your system is a good candidate, include as much information as possible when submitting your request.
